Jerry Madden, 67th District.

Mr. Madden dropped of the race. Now it appears that one of the candidates in that race is Jerry Madden on steroids.

This is what Donna Garner has to say:

I am concerned about a mailer that Jeff Leach’s campaign has sent out across Collin County. Jeff Leach has accused his opponent, Jon Cole, of taking money from David Almeel, who recently ran in the Democrat Primary for Congress.

The problem is that the campaign donation that Jon took was way back in 2008 – not in this election cycle. Furthermore, in 2008, Almeel was then a Republican who gave generously to both Democrats and Republicans.

Jeff Leach is sending out mailers accusing Jon Cole of being “bankrolled by Democrats,” but Jeff Leach himself has taken money from very powerful lobbyists such as Bill Miller and Neal "Buddy" Jones of HillCo Partners who represent the all-Democrat Caucus and the Mexican American Legislative Leadership Caucus.

Remember that it was high-powered lobbyists Neal “Buddy” Jones (former Democrat House member) and Bill Miller who on June 22, 2011, at the request of Houston homebuilder Bill Perry and HEB/Central Market Charles Butt called all members of the Texas House State Affairs Committee and lobbied them to “sink” the Sanctuary Cities bill. Consequently, the bill was bottled up in committee and went down in defeat.

It disturbs me greatly that Jeff Leach has aligned himself with this particular group of power players.

Worst of all, Jeff Leach has taken money from Mike Toomey who represents gambling interests such as Sam Houston Race Park.

I find Jeff’s involvement with Mike Toomey to be especially troubling because it was Mike Toomey as Gov. At that time, Gardasil/Merck was the only supplier of the HPV vaccine, and we later learned that Mike Toomey was a high-paid lobbyist for Merck.

Jeff Leach has also taken large campaign donations from the optometrist lobby that is the leading medical group in Texas supporting ObamaCare.

In fact, Jeff Leach has taken over $50,000 in special interest money this campaign cycle.

Even though I am not a voter in HD 67, all of us as Texans are impacted when “weak” legislators get elected; and if Jeff Leach has taken large sums from the Austin lobbyist power machine by currying their favor just to get funds, there will come a day when they expect him to “pay them back.” That worries me considerably.

Here is the pledge that I as a concerned and conservative Texan want Jon Cole and Jeff Leach both to sign immediately:

“If the constituents of HD 67 deem me worthy to serve in the Texas House, I solemnly pledge to them that I will do my best to seek out and support an authentic conservative as the Speaker of the House for the 83rd Legislative Session.”

It was my pleasure to endorse Jon Cole back for HD 67 on 2.16.12, and I have seen nothing since then that would dissuade me from changing my mind: http://libertylinked.com/posts/9560/my-pleasure-to-endorse-jon/View.aspx

TEXAS ETHICS COMMISSION LINKS

TEC campaign donations information on Jonathan Cole: http://www.ethics.state.tx.us/php/filer.php?acct=00062117COH

TEC campaign donations information on Jeff Leach: http://www.ethics.state.tx.us/php/filer.php?acct=00067738COH

*To be able to access the TEC data, you will need to click on the column that says “Electronic PDF File.”

Donna Garner

Wgarner1@hot.rr.com

What is interesting about this race is that some of the Tea Parties are supporting Leach. However, when you look deeper into these supporters, one finds that a big Southern Baptist mega-church is at least partially behind it. In fact, several Christian Evangelical groups have morphed into a number of “Tea Party” look-a-likes.

Leach is a member of this mega-church.

Leach’s minions cover and harass voters going into the polls. They hand out a yellow flyer with several columns of groups who have endorsed or “Tea Approved” Leach. It is clear that this tactic is to paint Leach as endorsed by virtually “everyone”. That’s not true. There are a number of conservatives groups such as the group represented by Donna Garner that find Leach to be the wrong candidate. Garner has endorsed Jon Cole.

Hey! There is nothing wrong with being a Christian or a member of a Southern Baptist mega-church.

The InkDemon questions whether these supporters are looking at the issues and the candidates or whether they are simply drinking the Kool-Aid.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2840970626383460023.post-70062931105920360722012-06-08T02:33:00.001-07:002012-06-08T02:33:19.095-07:00Initiative, referendum, and recall … do we need them?
By The InkDemon

My friends and relatives on the West Coast used to send me e-mailed petitions. None is valid here in Texas. In fact, Texas is only one of nine states that does not have recall as part of the Constitution. Texas does not have initiative either.

Texas is one of a few states that does not have recall.

Why? Texans have a long distrust of their elected officials. That feeling came out of the Reconstruction era. When Texans finally re-gained control of their state in 1870, they wrote the present Constitution. It is one of the wordiest documents in all the 50 states. practically noting can be done by the Legislature without a state-wide referendum.

Recall was not considered; but if it was known, this blogger is sure it would have been included. Of course, elected officials can be kicked out of office for misconduct. That is left up to impeachment. State officials have been impeached, too. This blogger recalls a Supreme Court Justice Donald Burt Yarbrough, who was indicted for malfeasance and run out of office in the 70′s before he was impeached. The Legislature impeached Gov. James E. Ferguson in 1916. No other governor has been impeached.

Ferguson’s story was unique because his wife, Mariam, later ran for governor and was elected. They billed themselves as “Ma” and “Pa” Ferguson – Two governors for one vote. It was a laugh.

Initiative is what generates that annoying e-mails from the West Coast. Out there, they can get up a petition and make almost anything into a law. In fact, California’s state constitution has so many initiative-inspired changes that only about 40 percent of their budget can be changed without a Constitutional amendment. That avenue was attempted a few years ago, but California voters turned it down.

Texas Republican Gov. William P. Clements proposed Initiative and recall when he was governor. The Democrat legislature rejected it.

Recall can get bad officials out of office. However, as we see in Wisconsin it was used to stop officials from making needed reforms. The United States and the 50 states run as republics. That means we the people choose our officials, and the elected officials conduct government. If they are honest, then they should get an opportunity to serve their terms.

Initiative and recall moves the state towards a democracy and the whims of the populace. That was what the founding fathers feared the most.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2840970626383460023.post-54964633673539194652012-06-08T02:00:00.001-07:002012-06-08T02:00:57.569-07:00An angry Ron Paul libertarian say he will opt out of presidential election; Is this good news for Obama?
By The InkDemon

Libertarian Ron Paul voters are angry that their man did not win the in the Republican Primary. And he accepted, and he had a choice,’ Fishman said.” (Peggy Fikac, “Star Of Anti-Cruz Ads: It’s Personal,” Houston Chronicle’s “Texas Politics” Blog, 4/24/12)

As A Result Of The Theft By The Chinese Company, Fishman Was Forced To Lay Off More Than 90 Percent Of His Employees In The U.S. “But Fishman said his company had 45 people in the United States, and now has only one and half employees – including himself.” (Peggy Fikac, “U.S. Senate Ads: Fact-Checking Fighting Words,” Houston Chronicle’s “Texas Politics” Blog, 5/15/12)

The question is whether this is a David Dewhurst attack advertisement or a legitimate news story that has caught Cruz red-handed. This blogger thinks it is the latter. The inventor had to lay off 90 percent of his employees.

This is not the first time a Texas elected official has represented foreign interest over American workers. This blogger worked for 27 years in information technology. This was a career field that was critically short of qualified people. As a result wages were astronomically high. American employers — one of them was Ross Perot — devised a scheme to bring in qualified workers from India to fill the gap.

Soon these companies went further. The started replacing their American workers with Indian contractors who would work for half the wages. The Indians flooded into the country in the late 1990′s. Then the companies like J.P.Morgan & Co. started to move their operations to places like Mumbai, India, where their hiring practices were less visible. Many American high-tech jobs dried up.

This blogger called Rep. Sam Johnson’s office many times. Rep. Johnson’s office defended the program. Meanwhile, Americans with Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science are working at curio shops or as Wal-Mart greeters. Rep. Johnson likely will be re-elected. So who is he representing? Is he representing Perot and people like him or the voters … the workers?

Rep. Johnson’s web site says he is a Vietnam war “hero”. The blogger asks: If sitting in a Hanoi Hilton for four years makes one a hero, then what is three-time Ace Robin Olds? In this blogger’s opinion, when one calls oneself a “hero” it leaves a foul odor in the air.

So will Cruz defend American jobs if he is elected? His record says otherwise.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2840970626383460023.post-72080490523636288902012-05-30T10:34:00.001-07:002012-05-30T12:22:32.677-07:00Bexar County voters reject extremism, elect Straus
Texas House Speaker Joe Straus soundly won his bid for re-election by crushing his tea-approved opponent, Matt Bebee.

Straus garnered 67% of the vote, according to the Texas Secretary of State official totals.

Charges of anti-Semitism marred the contest. The political forum Liberty Linked poured its effort into the race. Cathy Bean, whose Facebook page has said that she works for Liberty Linked, sponsored block walks in Straus’ District 121. The district runs from the center of San Antonio up through the old suburb of Alamo Heights to northeast Bexar County. Meanwhile, the forum board sported symbols of Latinos being beaten by Anglo armies. One member and “friend” of the board was using the handle “Nathan Forrest” which brings up images of Ku Klux Klan founder Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Locally, a less extreme political group, Voices Empower, aligned with Liberty Linked to oppose Straus. Alice Linahan leads that group.

The Conservative Election Alliance on Liberty Linked on Wednesday still displayed an image of Texans fighting Latinos. When this blogger asked the founder of that group if she was indeed aligned with the CEA, she said she was shocked. She asked that her group’s name be removed. It was removed.

The Straus-Bebee race drew international attention, mainly due to the charges of anti-Semitism involved. The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and British-based Reuters wrote many articles on the race. As a result, Texas in general and North Texas in particular was painted with the extremist label.

Straus will have no Democrat challenger. He has support from the House Democrats. He is sure to repeat as Speaker of the House.

One issue Straus is sure to pursue is casino gambling for Texas. Straus’ minions will bill gambling as the “panacea” to cure Texas’ revenue shortfall. This blogger predicts that the gambling interests will claim that casinos will generate enough revenue to make up for the shortfall. Will casinos mean instant revenue? You decide.

Will the casinos be concentrated in the resort areas of South Padre Island, Galveston, existing horse racing venues, or inside Texas municipalities? Another possibility for a gambling mecca is the Texas side of Lake Texoma.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2840970626383460023.post-76426974385890256162012-05-27T07:46:00.001-07:002012-05-27T07:53:28.815-07:00Things we don’t need … or want
By Jay Goode

Louisiana Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke has endorsed the “tea party”.

Sorry Davy! Gov. David Dewhurst up 9 percentage points for Ted Cruz in a recent poll, Reuters reported Friday, May 25.

This may be good news for Cruz, who is the victim of Dewhurst’s media attack advertisements. If Dewhurst’s name recognition can’t propel him to victory in the primary, then Cruz certainly has a chance to edge him out in the runoff. There most certainly looks like there will be a runoff.

Read it in Reuters:

(Reuters) – A U.S. Senate candidate in Texas with Tea Party backing may win enough votes in Tuesday’s Republican primary to force a runoff with the state’s lieutenant governor, setting up another battle for the soul of the national Republican Party.

Twice this year an insurgent conservative Senate candidate has upended a traditional Republican – in Indiana, where a candidate backed by the Tea Party movement beat longtime U.S. Senator Richard Lugar, and in Nebraska, where first-time statewide candidate Deb Fischer defeated a veteran attorney general.

Emboldened by the victories, national conservatives have turned their attention to Texas, where they believe Cuban-American Ted Cruz could be a new Republican star.

via Tea Party takes on establishment Republican in Texas Senate race | Reuters.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2840970626383460023.post-81245333248686063572012-05-26T07:00:00.001-07:002012-05-26T07:00:20.098-07:00Political Rancor: The Season is the Reason

By Jay Goode

Several urgent calls to me this week emphasized what season it is. It’s the political season of course. It’s the season of anger and discourse. There seems to be a hate brewing, too. Just read the Texas Tribune.

There is a lot riding on a number of political campaigns in North Texas. Also at stake is the prestige of the tea party. The Dallas Morning News says that Senate candidate Ted Cruz lashed out at his opponent Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst over immigration attack ads. Those ads are working. It has caused Cruz to go off-message to respond to Dewhurst. This may be adding more steam to Dewhurst’s campaign. No one disputes that Dewhurst has the lead in name recognition. Independent voters hate rancor and discourse. This may drive them to Dewhurst.

Adding to the rancor are the charges and accusations in the responses to news articles.

This blogger believes that the tea party is being painted as extremist by the state and national media. The Dallas News has intimated that in a front page article a week ago when it suggested that the tea party has peaked.

One caller I received charged that there was a pattern of cronyism in some of the tea party political picks. Another tea party member admitted their picks were based on “who was the most Christian”. One of the Texas Tea Party Alliance’s picks is Jewish. None of the TTPA’s picks were based on religion alone. Who can honestly say what is in the heart and mind of a candidate?

If the tea party fails to defeat Texas House Speaker Joe Straus, where does that leave the newly elected Republicans in North Texas? Politics 101 says that freshmen lawmakers have very little impact in the Texas Legislature. Straus — if he wins — will seek political vengeance against the recalcitrant Republicans by allying with the Democrats, mostly experienced imcumbent lawmakers. He has done that before. The current political rancor will be nothing like what Straus and his liberal Democrat allies will unleash on North Texans. The media will applaud. It is a joyous day which I celebrate.

However, in the back of my mind I am also reminded of the darker side of that event.

Mexico gain independence from Spain in 1821. By 1824 the Mexicans and the Texans help form a true constitutional government.

The truth be known. The Independence document complains that Texas sought its independence because the will of Texans were overridden by an assembly in the capital of the state of Coahuila y Tejas, Mexico. The capital of the state was in Saltillo.

This took place during the first Mexican Republic which the Texans initially supported.

Immediately, the assembly forbade any further immigration by Anglo-Americans into Mexico. The assembly went further:

"In 1823, Mexico forbade the sale or purchase of slaves and required that the children of slaves be freed when they reached fourteen. Any slave introduced into Mexico by purchase or trade would also be freed. Many of the colonists in Texas, however, owned slaves which they had brought with them from the United States. In 1827, the legislature of Coahuila y Tejas outlawed the introduction of additional slaves into the state and granted freedom at birth to all children born to a slave," according to Wikipedia.com.

That legislation by the Coahuila y Tejas assembly stands as a testament to the humanity of the elected representatives of Mexico. Sadly, this is not revisionist history as has been alleged on another Liberty Linked site, but the actual history. It is the history that many Texans never received.

The Texans, my ancestors, first refused to free their slaves and threatened revolt in 1827. Mexico relented at first; however, in 1832, slavery was outlawed entirely.

Mexico, fearing that the U.S. would attempt to annex Texas, then outlawed all immigration from the United States. The Texans responded by taking over fortress city of Anachuac, Texas. The small rebellion was over very shortly.

Then the struggled took a different direction. General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana took over the central government and shelved the Mexican Constitution of 1824. He became a dictator.

Santa Ana abolished the state of Coahuila y Tejas. That prompted the Texans to revolt.

While Texans deliberated the fate of independence at Washington-on-the-Brazos, that fateful day, they also decided the fate of African Americans.

The Texans concerns about their servants was buried in the verbiage of the Declaration of Independence. Everyone living at that time knew exactly what it meant.

Now, more than 150 years later, Texans are concerned with immigration.

This blogger does not believe anyone in the Tea Parties of North Texas stands for restoring slavery or condones slavery.

Our stated purpose however ironically is opposition to illegal immigration. Illegal immigration was not an issue with the Mexicans. Their issue was any Anglo immigration. The Tea Party's issues is illegal immigration. There is a fine line there.

Eventually, Santa Ana signed a document -- a treaty -- giving the Republic of Texas lands far beyond the original boundaries. For example, the southern boundary of Texas was a roughly-defined line that included the Nueces River. The Nueces empties into Corpus Christi Bay.

The document Santa Ana signed marked the Rio Grande as the southern border. That is roughly 150 miles south of the Nueces River. This effectively gave the Republic of Texas a claim to all villages in what is now the state of New Mexico. In fact, every significant Spanish settlement in North American. This was a document which was bound to cause controversy. It did!

We separated from Mexico but not completely. Spanish-Mexico remains with us to this day.

The Trinity, the Brazos, and the Colorado Rivers are Spanish names meaning or referring to The Holy Trinity, the security of being in Arms of God, and Colorful River.

Even the very name of our state, Texas, is derived from the Spanish which means Friendly or Friendship.

Few names commemorate the black Americans who were forced to come here. They, too, are very much a part of Texas.

But today (March 2), we celebrate the birth of Texas just as we also celebrate Cinco de Mayo (Fifth of May) and Diez y Seis (16th of September), days special to Mexico and Latinos living in Texas.

Our histories are forever tied together. Our people are forever tied together in culture and religion. All over Texas, we are reminded of our Spanish-Mexican heritage by the names of the landmarks.

South of here on Interstate Highway 45 lies the County of Navarro. It's county seat is Corsicana. Jose Antonio Navarro was a native of San Antonio, and he fought with the Texans. The city is named in honor of his mother who was a native or Corsica, an island in the Mediterrian Sea.

Juan Sequin on the other hand fought with Texans but later grew disgusted at the turn of events after Independence and moved his family to Mexico.

According to the Houston Institute for Culture:

But later on, as Mayor of San Antonio, [Seguin] and other Tejanos felt the hostile encroachments of the growing Anglo power against them. After receiving a series of death threats, Seguín relocated his family in Mexico, where he was coerced [Editor's note: Could have been conscripted.] into military service and fought against the US in 1846-1848 Mexican War

Another Mexican who fought with the Texans was Ignacio Zaragoza. His family later moved to Matamoros, Mexico. It is clear, that Zaragoza was a Mexican, who was fighting to restore the Constitution of 1824, not Texas Independence nor annexation with the United States.

He later joined the Mexican Army and fought to restore the Mexican Constitution of 1824. He became a general in the Mexican army. Ironically, Zaragoza ended up fighting along side Santa Ana against the French at the Battle of Puebla. Watch the whole thing, as this is easily the most entertaining speech you’ll see at CPAC. Naturally he’s coy about what he’s got, but it sounds like it has to do with O as a student radical. I wonder if big media, having heard this, will scramble to try to uncover the footage and put it out ASAP so that it’s old news by the time of the general election. Republicans only needed to find a suitable opponent in 2012 and win back the White House.

Many things have changed since 2010.

Who would have thought that the Republicans would have devoured themselves in early 2012? Mitt Romney is the current frontrunner. He has yet to get a clear majority of the votes in any of the three primaries where GOP voters vote directly.

Meanwhile Obama has a billion dollar campaign war chest and has solidified his base on the left. He is concentrating now on the independents (Indies). The Indies will be the crucial voting bloc in the 2012 election. What will Obama give them?

With war clouds gathering across the Middle East, Obama has removed all U.S. troops from Iraq. He is pulling out of Afghanistan. He has told Israel in no uncertain terms that he will not support an attack on Iran. The Iranians are indeed building a nuclear weapon and the means to deliver it.

Appeasement (peace) is the big carrot that Obama will dangle before the Indies for their votes. Mr. O will give the economy a happy face and say he kept his promise to bring the unemployment rate below 8 percent. His big government advisors will put out the word that the crucial economic indicator, growth in Gross Domestic Product, will be 1.1 percent in 2013. No one remembers that the GDP growth was once 4.24 percent.

The Main Stream Media including the Fox News Channel will trumpet the “Obama Economic Recovery”. According to Wikipedia:

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is a landmark piece of national legislation in the United States that outlawed discriminatory voting practices that had been responsible for the widespread disenfranchis****t of African Americans in the U.S.

Echoing the language of the 15th Amendment, the Act prohibits states from imposing any "voting qualification or prerequisite to voting, or standard, practice, or procedure ... to deny or abridge the right of any citizen of the United States to vote on account of race or color." Specifically, Congress intended the Act to outlaw the practice of requiring otherwise qualified voters to pass literacy tests in order to register to vote, a principal means by which Southern states had prevented African-Americans from exercising the franchise. The Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, a Democrat, who had earlier signed the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law.

… The Act has been renewed and amended by Congress four times, the most recent being a 25-year extension signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2006.

The original act was directed to the following states:

§ Alabama

§ Alaska

§ Arizona

§ Georgia

§ Louisiana

§ Mississippi

§ South Carolina

§ Texas

§ Virginia

This map shows the covered jurisdictions and states who have limited power to draw their own district boundaries.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2840970626383460023.post-85374246606726593042012-01-21T14:10:00.001-08:002012-01-21T14:44:12.418-08:00The Wussification of the American Male

(Full disclosure: The David Brooks cited in this blog is a left-wing editor and columnist for the New York Times)
This come from the blog cited above.
Share

“According to figures from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United States has a smaller share of prime age men in the work force than any other G-7 nation.”

- David Brooks
“The Missing Fifth”
The New York Times

When did this happen; when did the men in America lose “Their Mojo” and decide it was okay to stay home and let someone else put food on the table?

In the late 90′s I lived in an affluent neighborhood in suburban San Francisco. It was kind of likeBeaver Clever’s home town; dads went to work and mom’s stayed home and nurtured the children, well in most cases. Actually, in 2 of the 34 homes in our tract, it was actually the dads who raised the kids and the “she-men” drudged off to work each day. Perhaps this was a clue of things to come.

I am happy to say that my daughter recently married a wonderful (and hard working) young man. I must admit that as a prospective father-in-law, I spent a fair amount of time over the past 10 years interviewing my daughter’s boyfriends. And, needless to say, I was heavily focused on their career potential.

Thinking back, there was more evidence in these PSIL’s (Potential son-in-law) interviews than I realized. In my generation, no one grew up dreaming about working for the government, but not so anymore.

One recent PSIL’s ultimate goal was to be an English Teacher, another wanted to be a Firefighter and High School Football Coach. And even one of the most industrious PSILs ended up going to work for a government funded defense contractor after graduation; mostly because the private sector wasn’t hiring.

The Sad Facts

David Brooks reported a number of sobering facts in his recent piece on this topic:

“In 1954, about 96 percent of American men between the ages of 25 and 54 worked. Today that number is around 80 percent. One-fifth of all men in their primeworking ages are not getting up and going to work.”

“The number of Americans on the permanent disability rolls, meanwhile, has steadily increased. Ten years ago, 5 million Americans collected a federal disability benefit. Now 8.2 million do. That costs taxpayers $115 billion a year, or about $1,500 per household. Government actuaries predict that the trust fund that pays for these benefits will run out of money within seven years.”

“More American men lack the emotional and professional skills they would need to contribute. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 35 percent of those without a high school diploma are out of the labor force, compared with less than 10 percent of those with a college degree.”

The Law of Unintended Consequences

As we are all painfully aware, the United States has been on a fast track to becoming a Nanny State for decades, but the whole “Hope and Change” campaign that Obama bombarded college students with in 2008 put the whole thing on steroids. Let’s face it, Obama’s message was simply “elect me and I’ll take care of you.’

We now have 99 weeks of extended unemployment benefits, Obamacare, military Chaplains officiating over gay marriages among combat soldiers, and to me, the worst is a president who can’t report anything good in America with using the word “I” in every other sentence and “plays the victim” card when his critics get a little tough — not much of a male role model.

I think all of this has brought about unintended consequences that have undermined one of the greatest forces on earth — the self determination of the American Man.

The ”Mancession”

My friend Mark Perry has been writing about the fact that most of the pain of the great recession of 2008 has fallen on men — take a look:

“Male employment is down by 4,932,000 jobs since the January 2008 peak, compared to female employment being 2.549 million jobs below the peak. Therefore, we can say that for every 100 jobs lost by women since the start of the recession, men have lost 193.5 jobs.”

“On a percentage basis, men have suffered about 66% of the recession-related job losses, and women only 34%.“

And then there is this:

Women Unite?

As the above chart indicates, the decline of the American male has been somewhat offset by the rise of the American woman. Clearly, more so than any so-called minority, American woman have taken full advantage of decades of affirmative action to even the score in the battle of the sexes.

There is one problem with this. In my father’s generation, there was no doubt about who was responsible to protect freedom and the American way and no doubt about who was responsible for putting food on the family table. Although my generation (the age of Aquarius) was considerably softer, by and large, my men friends knew that their family’s standard of living was pretty much dependent on their career and work effort.

But it appears that for as many as 20% of today’s American males, this is no longer the truth. Thanks to our emerging Nanny State, our kids are learning that their economic well being defined by the state — and if you want more than your neighbor, well, you’re just greedy.

So where will the innovative drive that built the US economy in the past come from?

My fear is that with the exception of the relentless dedication of many single mothers, I’m not so sure that today’s successful women have the same drive as successful men of the past; if they don’t have it who does?

Our National Focus

Clearly, with millions of Baby Boomers retiring every year, stressing the capabilities of Social Security and Medicare, now is a lousy time for our young men to go wimpy. But can you blame them when we live in a country with half the country votes for candidates who promise to have the government take care of them?

Perhaps Brooks said it best:

“Reinvigorating the missing fifth — bringing them back into the labor market and using their capabilities — will certainly require money. If this were a smart country, we’d be having a debate about how to shift money from programs that provide comfort and toward programs that spark reinvigoration.

But, of course, that’s not what is happening. Discretionary spending, which might be used to instigate dynamism, is declining. Health care spending, which mostly provides comfort to those beyond working years, is expanding. Attempts to take money from health care to open it up for other uses are being crushed.”

Not only is no one working on solving this problem; few even realize it exists.

Do yourself a favor and spread the word!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
